When is the best time of year to go on a South African Safari holiday?
Southern Africa is a year-round safari destination. The best time of year to visit Grace of Africa depends very much on your preferences.
There is something wonderful about experiencing nature in different seasons and a magical sighting is possible at any time of year. Traditionally the dry winter months (April to October) are best for game viewing, due to the shorter grass, lack of foliage and the absence of water inland which forces the game closer to the southern boundary of Kruger National Park where the perennial Crocodile River flows all year round right on Grace of Africa’s doorstep or along the perennial Sabie River never too far from where our game drives traverse as well and while the wildlife concentrate around the remaining sources of drinking water.
Annual rainfall, usually in the form of short afternoon thunder showers that clear up within an hour, occur from December to March. Many species give birth to their young around the start of the rains, so the bush is alive with new-born animals. Our mecca birding paradise is filled with all the returning migrant birds from Nov-March.
We are fortunate down south of Kruger National Park to have such a wide diverse of habitats which invites many of the species specific inhabitant to make this beautiful part of Kruger home to the Big 5 (Lion, Leopard, Cape Buffalo, Rhino and Elephant) plus Cheetah, Wild Dog, Spotted Hyena and all the plains wildlife including Giraffe, Kudu and so much more
